L'Espace Killy
L'Espace Killy
With over 300 km of piste and a height that ensures good cover throughout the season, L'Espace Killy is widely considered to be one of the best Alpine ski areas. It offers varied skiing to suit all abilities and is named after the French Olympic gold medalist skier, Jeane-Claude Killy.
Covering the two resorts of Val d’Isere and Tignes, L'Espace Killy has nearly 100 high speed lifts, which ensures that queuing is rare. It also has more than 200 snow cannons if additional snow cover is needed
The maximum skiable vertical drop of the E'space Killy area is one of the largest in the world at 1,900 meters. The lowest lift is at 1,550 meters, while the highest point on the Grande Motte glacier is an impressive 3,450 meters.
L’Espace Killy ski facts
• Runs: 20 green, 60 blue, 35 red
• Extensive off-piste
• Two glaciers
Novice skiers
We recommend that complete beginners take the five-minute bus journey from outside our chalet to Le Lac, where there are two good ski schools, rather than the ski school in Les Brevieres. This is because Le Lac is a more central location, with more going on, and also a better place for meeting up with other members in the party.
Intermediate skiers
Intermediate skiers will enjoy cruising down the wide and seemingly endless snowy runs. With a huge selection of blue and red runs, this area is perfect for those keen to progress.
Advanced skiers, experts and free spirits
You’ll find more to entertain yourselves here than any other ski area in the French Alps, with numerous black runs and unparalleled off-piste opportunities. If it’s bumps you’re after, you’ll find no shortage of mogul fields here!
One of the area’s most famous black runs is the Sache (also the longest run in L’Espace Killy). This run, plus several renowned off-piste routes through the Vallon de la Sache, are within easy reach of the Chalet Hotel Les Melezes as they start above Les Boisses from the Aguille Percee (meaning needle’s eye) - a geological oddity well worth a photo! The unforgettable runs down to Les Brevieres pass through a beautiful nature reserve.
You’ll also enjoy Le Spot - a whole mountainside devoted to free ride, back country, freestyle and boarder cross.
Snowboarding
Tignes Snowspace is the largest snowboard area not only in the French Alps, but in Europe. It has been designed for snowboarders of all levels, with jumps, a free ride zone and a half pipe. Extensive off–piste opportunities and a great choice of pistes make this a very popular area for boarders of all abilities.
There is a very good snowboard school based in Les Boisses and two more in Le Lac.
