Dolomiti Superski - KRONPLATZ

The spectacular Dolomiti Superski area is the largest in the world.  It has much to offer skiers looking for a challenge as well as intermediates and beginners.

The region is characterized by beautifully groomed pistes, a well organised and well maintained lift system, friendly locals, quaint villages and the most breathtaking scenery.

The Dolomites have recently been inscribed on The World Heritage List with this description:-

"The site of the Dolomites comprises a mountain range in the northern Italian Alps, numbering 18 peaks which rise to above 3,000 metres and cover 141,903 ha. It features some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs and a high density of narrow, deep and long valleys. A serial property of nine areas that present a diversity of spectacular landscapes of international significance for geomorphology marked by steeples, pinnacles and rock walls, the site also contains glacial landforms and karst systems. It is characterized by dynamic processes with frequent landslides, floods and avalanches. The property also features one of the best examples of the preservation of Mesozoic carbonate platform systems, with fossil records." UNESCO - World Heritage

Dotted throughout the region are charming mountain bars and restaurants (some of which have Michelin stars and some of which are world famous), providing local delicacies such as fruit grappa.  All these establishments are of such a high standard that we challenge you to find one that is less than excellent!

Kronplatz

This region of Dolomiti Superski is also known as Plan des Corones & has 107km of linked pistes including San Vigilio, Olang, Riscone & St Martin in Badia. The highest point in the Kronplatz area is Concordia 2000 where there is a huge area of wide open blues. Towards Riscone from this area are 2 of the longest black runs in the whole of the Dolomites.

Guests staying at the Hotel Diamant can choose to ski in Kronplatz or to ski in Alta Badia. It is easy to access to the Alta Badia region of Dolomiti Superski by bus or by Hotel Diamant's minibus service. You will be able to explore the area known as the Carousel between La Villa (location of the famous Gran Risa World Cup run), Corvara, Colfosco & San Cassiano, & join the Sella Ronda circuit - a 58km route around a group of mountains passing Arabba & Selva (home of another World Cup run). The area above Pedraces in Alta Badia is worth a visit to see a beautiful & famous mountain church, Santa Croce, often included in postcard scenes of Dolomiti.

One of the world’s most unique and memorable ski runs, the Hidden Valley, is close to San Cassiano.  At the bottom of this beautiful run you can be pulled back to the nearest lift by horse.

Our ski hosting program will offer excursions to the above places as well as the First World War Tour which follows an 82 km historical route around Col di Lana (also known as hill of blood) which was the site of many battles during 1915 -1918.

Intermediate skiers

Dolomiti Superski features miles and miles of wide red and blue runs.  Intermediate skiers will find themselves progressing fast here because the pistes are so well maintained and groomed.

Advanced skiers

For the more advanced skier there are plenty of blacks and challenging reds in the Dolomites to keep adrenaline flowing. You’ll find it’s possible to cover significant distances in a day. One of the area's most popular blacks is right under the Piculin lift, & 2 of the longest are in Kronplatz.

Snowboarders

In this part of the Dolomiti Superski area snowboarders have the advantage of wide open pistes and seemingly inexhaustible mileage.  There is also a snow park in Alta Badia & a half pipe in Kronplatz.

Hosted ski tours

Our staff will ski with you around Kronplatz on your first day and introduce you to our immediate area.  They will offer a tour of the Sella Ronda and several other ski trips during your stay.  It will be impossible to experience all the area has to offer in just one week - we’re sure you’ll want to return!

Just above the village centre of San Martino, on the mountainside, sits an old castle which is now an interesting museum.
